Jack focusing on Japan

Jack Nowell is confident that England will rectify their mistakes when they host Japan this weekend.

The 29-year-old has praised the attitude of the team after a 29-30 loss to Argentina last weekend, and says focus is clear as they look forward to their next Autumn Nations Series fixture.

"A big focus point for us this week has been about how it shouldn’t have to take a loss in the first game for us to have these conversations about discipline. We need to be at it from the start against Japan."

Nowell, named vice captain in Jones' side to face the Brave Blossoms, has taken on a leadership role within England's camp, and it's something the Exeter man has enjoyed.

“I’ve been lucky enough recently to be in the leadership group and we can get a sense of the feeling in the group and what the group needs. Eddie is very open to taking our comments on board," he said.

"At the end of the day, we all want to win every game and obviously the World Cup next year. When it’s simple like that in your head it’s very easy to run alongside each other and think about the end goal."

While the men’s team continue their preparations ahead of Saturday, a similar picture can be seen on the other side of the world, where Simon Middleton’s Red Roses are gearing up for their World Cup final showdown against New Zealand.

“It's a massive game. From us as a team we’re rooting for them massively, it’ll be a tough game against New Zealand but there’s a reason they’ve got to the final: they’ve been playing some unbelievable rugby," added Nowell.

"The growth in women’s rugby in the last couple of years has flown through the roof and to win the tournament would be such a big thing for the game. When you see the England Women winning the games that they’re winning and making it into the final, it does inspire us to push on."
