Ben will walk 330 miles

Ben Eddy is embarking on a 330-mile walk across three weeks in December to raise funds for the MyName5Doddie Foundation.

“I was inspired to do something watching Sports Personality of the Year in 2022, when Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow were given their award after the incredible fundraising efforts for MND. It made me cry and I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

“I had done some fundraising for MND a couple of years ago, which coincided with Doddie Weir’s MND diagnosis. I raised almost £3,000 for MyName5Doddie and Children’s Hospice Southwest by growing a mullet and doing silly hairstyles.

“But after hearing Kevin Sinfield saying, ‘It’s not a challenge unless it’s challenging’, I decided I wanted to do something completely different to challenge me and to raise awareness and as much money as possible for the MyName5Doddie Foundation.

“MND is the cruellest disease and to see it hitting people who are such special characters like Rob Burrow and Doddie Weir shows how cruel it is. I’ve been a rugby fan all my life, and growing up, Doddie was one of my favourite players. It was a no-brainer to choose the MyName5Doddie Foundation to raise funds for.”

Ben will be accompanied on different legs of his gruelling journey by friends and is also linking up with some rugby clubs along the route for sustenance and a shower.

He hopes his efforts will raise £5,555, a nod to Doddie Weir’s shirt no.5.
