SOS Kit Aid’s World Rugby recognition

World Rugby has recognised SOS Kit Aid’s distribution of over £8million of kit to more than 60 emerging rugby countries with their Rugby For All Award.

Since being founded in 2001, the charity has benefitted over a third of a million disadvantaged young people through more than 800 individual kit deliveries which saved over 300 tonnes of donated quality kit from UK landfill sites and saved over 1500 tonnes of CO2.

The Rugby For All Award recognises the contribution made by the charity to the sport and was collected by John Broadfoot, CEO and Founder of SOS Kit Aid, who said: “I’m so proud to be receiving this special award.   When I created the charity, I had no idea that we’d make such an amazing impact, and that we’d still be around over 20 years later.”

“I’m excited about the future for the charity and know that we can continue to make a positive impact on people’s lives, as well as continue to help save the environment, which we all know is more important than ever. I’d like to thank all our partners, sponsors, ambassadors, volunteers, and especially World Rugby for all their ongoing support.  We couldn’t have achieved what we have without their help.”

Sir Bill Beaumont, Chairman of World Rugby said, “It’s an outstanding achievement. The work that SOS Kit Aid has done and continues to do is so valuable not only for the sport of rugby, but it has much wider benefits including social inclusion, positive life skills and friendship, not to mention the positive impact on the environment.”

He went on to say, “It’s not an easy task to gather kit, package and distribute to other parts of the world and continue to manage and create those long-lasting and valuable relationships. I’d like to say a big well done to everyone involved”

If your club or rugby organisation has kit to donate or is interested in sponsoring a delivery you can discover more at SOS Kit Aid's website.
