Taking techniques back to school
During May and June the RFU trained 750 teachers and age grade coaches to improve staff training techniques.
During May and June the RFU trained 750 teachers and age grade coaches to ensure that staff delivering contact rugby in schools are competent and confident in teaching techniques and can provide engaging sessions for students to maximise numbers playing and enjoying rugby.
Delivered by RFU Coach Developers, 35 Kids First Contact courses aimed at new staff were run, as well as eight Age Grade Development days for teachers and coaches of all experience levels.
A number on the courses were looking forward to introducing rugby into their curriculum from September, among them Emma Way, from Mandeville School, Berkshire. “The Kids First Contact course was fantastic," she said. "I got so much out of it and had the most amazing experience at the same time. I can’t wait to begin to teach all this new content in September.”
Brighton College coach Nick Bouy said he gained a lot from the time with Coach Developers. “The Principles of Lineout course was fantastic. I picked up a number of new things which I will implement at school from September.”

The Schools & Colleges Manager Chris Sigsworth said: “Knowing how difficult it is for teachers to take time out of school, it was particularly pleasing to see so many engaging and looking to develop their coaching on behalf of their pupils. We are looking forward to seeing the impact that this makes in the new school year.”
