U20s get helping hand from local juniors
The England men’s U20 squad received a helping hand from talented young rugby players at Chester RUFC
The local youngsters, who are participating in their own half-term Sedbergh School rugby camp, were delighted to meet some of their emerging heroes when they joined in the captain’s run ahead of England U20's round three clash in the Under-20 Six Nations against Wales at Colwyn Bay on Friday night.
The Chester juniors warmed up the home pitch ahead of the more senior side’s session before both squads came together to finish with training skills and fun drills.
The England men’s U20 players have been training at Chester RUFC’s home ground all week as they aim to continue their unbeaten start to their Under-20 Six Nations campaign.
“We had a great time training with the Chester RUFC Under-10s, it was a really wonderful experience for all involved,” England men’s U20 captain, Lewis Chessum, said.
“While it’s a fun opportunity for the young Chester girls and boys, it’s also very special for our lads. All 23 of us were playing the game at roughly this age and it would’ve meant the world to us to meet people playing for England, so hopefully it does for them too.
“Thank you to Chester RUFC for having us throughout the week, the facilities are great and you were wonderful hosts. I hope we can come back again.”
Chester RUFC wished the England men’s U20 luck ahead of their round three match against Wales.
“This was an awesome experience for the kids attending the Sedbergh School rugby camp hosted at Chester RUFC, who got to watch and join in with a training session with the England men’s U20 as they carried out their captains run,” Chester RUFC's Sabrina McGill said.
“The juniors were able to join the players on pitch for some coaching and they finished off with a fun Q&A session.
“It’s been great to host the lads in their final preparations for their next Six Nations match on Friday night – best of luck lads!”
The match against Wales kicks off at 19:15 on Friday, 24 February at Colwyn Bay’s Stadiwm CSM, and will be available to watch live on BBC iPlayer.
